Work Interview
Years ago, I looked for a job and went on to an interview in a company. There were two interviewers, one young and one quite old. The young spoke and the old sat, listened to and did not utter a word from the beginning of the interview until its end. The young man began by asking about something related to optics. The question was simple and I knew the answer. But then, I made a critical mistake and asked him if he knew why.
The young said: “Why what?”
I said: “Why this particular answer and not another?”
He thought for a moment and said: “That is how the formula is.”
To add sin to crime I said: “Yes, but what is the physical reason that this formula comes from?”
He did not know, and I explained my opinion about its source. He then stopped asking questions and took me to a tour of the company’s development laboratory.
Later, someone told me that the older reviewer refused to my joining the company.
I went to another interview, did not repeat my mistake and was accepted by a better company. At least, better for me.
