Eve of the New Year in the far North. Outside Snow, ice, freezing cold, howling wind. Inside the house, fire in the fireplace spreads warm heat, people meet friends, people drink, spend good time, sometimes singing, and sometimes dancing. Everyone is happy with the new year.

A group of women decides to trick the little tramp a little bit. One of them eying him and signals, “Come, come, dance with me.” Charlie Chaplin doesn’t believe, turns his head and looks back to the right. No one is there. Left, no one either. He looks forward and the woman signals again: “Yes, yes, it’s you, come and we dance” and Charlie joins her.

What happened next? See the movie excerpt:

Why all that? The circle dances in the folk dance are over, and people switch to pair-dancing. Only the experts who know the dances very well, those who know to rotate their partner, wrap her and then free her, rotate in the right direction, and move forward and backward in full coordination with the partner, without hesitation or confusion.

I sit on a side bench and look. Suddenly, one of the dancers starts making signs to me, come, come, and dance. Like Charlie Chaplin, I do not believe, look back to the right, no one, back to the left, no one. I Look forward and the dancer signals again, come join me, and I get up and advance towards her.
Suddenly, someone emerges from the back, like a storm. When she passes me on my right side, she says, ‘I am her permanent partner’ and begins to dance with her.

What happened next? I continued to sit on the bench and looked at the dancers.
